A week of cakes

So, the cake business seems to finally be picking up a little, however, they seem to be in clusters. I had 4 cakes over the last 5 days! Everyone has been really happy with them and I am hoping they will help spread my name and get some orders from people I don't actually know.

They were having a pot luck dinner for someone's birthday at work last week, so Robert offered to bring the cake of course so this is what I chose for that one. He said it was a huge hit and lots of people asked for business cards, so HOPEFULLY this will bring in some orders!

This one was a 5 yro Birthday. She was very sweet and very excited about it when I delivered it :)

This one was for a friend's mom who was turning 50.

This one was for a guy who works at the Chevy dealership and is leaving to take over a Toyota dealership.

Feeling crafty this week

A couple weeks ago I saw a bead and ribbon necklace on another blog, Wayward girls crafts, that was pretty cute so I decided to make one for my sister this week for her birthday. Of course this project was harder than I thought it would be, but then most things are! The ribbon I bought to make the necklace of course was WAY to thick to fit through the beads so I had to use other ribbon I had leftover from making hairbows. Here is Hailey modeling it :)

I also found this plate and cup on the clearance isle at Wal-mart last week and thought they would make a great cake stand, and they did :) The cake isn't actually finshed in this picture because I had to put it on a board to move and deliver it, but you can still get the general idea. It was super easy, just put a ring on hot glue around the bottom of the cup and put the plate on top, hold for a minute to make sure the glue sets and you are done! The whole thing cost less than $3 and took less than 5 mins to make. I will definitely be on the look out for clearance dishes in the future. I am thinking a nice rich color charger plate and a colored glass goblet would be great for the holidays!

In the past 5 days

I have made 4 cakes!

This one was a smash cake for a friend's daughter's first birthday. I also made a huge s'mores cake for the party too, but didn't take any pics for some reason...

This one was a surprise that his stepmom brought to work :)

This one is very special, because it is to surprise my best and oldest friend for her birthday tomorrow! Willy Wonka is her absolute favorite movie, she used to make me watch it every weekend growing up so I am sure she is going to love it!

Lets make a cake!

That's alot of stuff right?!?! I made my first wedding cake this weekend, this is most of the ingridents.

About half way done...

FINISHED and delivered!!

I have to admit, I am not sure that I will advertise doing wedding cakes. I feel like I didn't sleep all week worrying about all the things that could go wrong, but thankfully no major problems came up and it looks great :)

Zoo cake!

I have been looking forward to making this cake for a couple months now, since the mom ordered it almost 3 months ago and the day finally came! It came out super cute and they loved it too :) It is a white cake with vanilla butter cream and fondant details. The animal bodies are brownies covered in fondant, with solid fondant heads.

My Baby Girl is 2!....

A month ago! Uggg, slackest mommy ever here! I can't believe my sweet baby is 2 already. It really seems like just yesterday I was sitting at work in the middle of the night watching my belly bounce as she had her nightly hiccups :) We didn't do a big party, just family on her actual bday for cake and ice cream. Here are a few pics.

I had bought the tutu several months ago at Costco thinking I had plenty of time to find a "Happy Birthday" or "Birthday girl" shirt to match, turns out they are hard to come by! So, I ended up with a black leotard from Old Navy and ironed on a sparkly cupcake I found at AC Moore. I also made a new hair bow to match with cupcake and purple ribbons :)

My baby boy is 5!

Then...10 lbs 10 oz, 21 inches

My sweet baby is now 5 years old! I can't believe it! Soon he will be starting school, which is both sad and exciting at the same time. He is very into the movie How to Train Your Dragon right now so he requested a cake based on the movie. It is a very cute movie if you haven't seen it.

One of Christopher's presents (from Grandma) was to go bowling, which he has been asking to do for awhile now. We all had a great time, Robert was actually able to go with us, as was my Dad and sister :) Even Hailey bowled and loved it!

Hailey's turn

None, 5 yrs old and so grown up!

Failure and success all in the same day

I have had several people ask me do I make Red Velvet cake over the last few months, and the answer is always not yet, but if you order one I will gladly make it. I didn't have an order for one, but I attempted it today. I used a Paula Deen recipe and I can't believe I am saying this, but it was a failure. I just don't really care for red velvet so I didn't like it. But, my husband does like it and he said it was dry. I have a few taste testers that I still have to hear back from but I am not expecting rave reviews of. I also have a carrot cake recipe that I pulled from a magazine awhile back that I had been wanting to try so I made it today also. And it was a success!! It came out perfect, and was so super simple. And while I actually made cupcakes with both recipes instead of actual cakes, I think that it can still count towards my make a cake from scratch that is on my 101 things list. I was covered in sugar and flour by the time I was done making both these recipes from scratch and the icing to go with them. They both called for cream cheese icing, but it was different from what I usually make and so far everyone really likes this icing. I uses both cream cheese and butter, of course butter makes everything better :)

My little cake monster...think she wants one? She ate 3 today!
